Chalk Line's next Open Submissions window will take place towards the end of 2026
In 2024 we received 80 plays, which after being read by our team of readers, led to two pieces being commissioned for development - each receiving an ITC minimum commission payment.
In 2025 we received over 140 plays and are currently in the shortlisting process.
Each year we seek two new plays to take forward or two new exciting writers to commission for work.
How to submit
When the submission window reopens please do send an email to chalklinetheatre@gmail.com.
We are a small team and will aim to send feedback to shortlisted writers, although the process can take months.
In general we are looking for full length scripts from writers, which can be at any stage of development, but sadly are not in a position to consider pitches of smaller work.
We work in a collaborative way with writers and are looking for writers who are keen to further develop their show with the Chalk Line team, eventually being staged by Sam Edmunds and Vikesh Godhwani.
We cannot accept plays which have already been premiered.
Although we are looking to select two plays for development, we are also looking to start relationships with new writers, so please send us your work even if it is a first draft.
We are keen to hear from writers from unrepresented backgrounds who are tackling important socio-political themes or issues within their work. We believe in the power of theatre to impact audiences and communities, therefore we are naturally drawn to schools that can support wider outreach programmes for change.
We have a strong interest in working with playwrights that are keen to experiment; creating work that is unconventional in form & structure.
