Founder & Co-Artistic Director - Sam Edmunds

Sam is a multi award winning director, writer and producer. He is the Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Chalk Line Theatre company, who he has toured work with nationally and internationally. His writing is published with Playdead Press.

 

He was the former Artist Support Producer at Camden People's Theatre, Resident Assistant Director at The Hampstead Theatre, Resident Assistant Director at RADA and was a Young Trustee at Tangled Feet. 

 

In 2026 Sam was chosen to take part in the pilot programme of the RTYDS Fairplay Artistic Director training scheme for working class artists. He was also selected to take part in the Criterion New Programme.

Producing credits include:  Shadow World The Musical GALA (Arcola Theatre 2026); Why A Black Woman Will Never Be Prime Minister by Zakiyyah Deen (Camden People's Theatre 2024); Under The Black Rock by Tim Edge (Arcola Studio 1 2023), Alice In Wonderland by Sixteenfeet Productions (Kew Gardens 2023); Poison, Hate & Vitriol by Amy Guyler (Vault Festival 2023); I Lost My Virginity To Chopin’s Nocturne in B-Flat Minor By Sebastian Gardner (UK Tour 2021, Vaults 2021) among others.

Directing in drama schools: Albion, The Angry Brigade and The Welkin (East 15 Acting School 2026/25/24); The Tempest, Macbeth & A Monster Calls (London College of Music 2025/2024).

 

Sam has been a workshop facilitator for The Young Vic, NT Connections, artsdepot, Theatre Peckham, NGYT, COMMON and The Pleasance Futures Trust.

 

He is a reader for the Bruntwood Playwriting Prize and The Phoebe Frances Brown Award.

Co-Artistic Director - Vikesh Godhwani

Vikesh Godhwani is an award-winning freelance theatre director, writer, producer & workshop facilitator & the co-artistic director of Chalk Line Theatre.

Vikesh has primarily worked in new writing making work both in the UK and Malta for venues and organisations including Bristol Old Vic, Southwark Playhouse, New Diorama Theare, Underbelly, Edinburgh, Pleasance, London, Vault Festival, Theatre Peckham, Battersea Arts Centre, Mercury Theatre Colchester, NGYT, Manoel Theatre, Mediterranean Conference Centre, Spazju Kreattiv, Ziguzajg International Festival for Children and Young People, Teatru Malta, Victoria International Arts Festival,& Esplora. He has directed political new writing, family shows, musicals, autobiographical material and shows in the dark, putting innovation at the forefront of his practice. 

Vikesh has also participated in various R&Ds as a director and dramaturg in collaboration with various venues and organisations including The National Theatre Studios, MAC Birmingham, Camden People's Theatre, Artsdepot, Artsadmin & Teatru Malta.

Vikesh was previously the Projects Producer/Programmer at Theatre Peckham and has previously worked as an Assistant Producer at China Plate. He has a Masters in Arts & Cultural Management from King's College London, is a Stage One bursary recipient, a JCI Malta TOYP Cultural Impact Recipient,  a six-time Malta Arts Award recipient, has been nominated for an OffFest Award & won a Standing Ovation Award for The Nobodies and was a finalist for an Offie for Blanket Ban.

 

Vikesh has also directed the longest run in the history of Maltese theatre with his production of Jamie Cardona's Mid-Djarju Ta' Student Fi Skola Tal-Knisja. Vikesh has recently been awarded the title of Best Creative Practitioner by Arts Council Malta at the Premju Għall-Arti Awards in 2025.
