Chalk Line Theatre is a multi-award winning company based in Luton which tours nationally and internationally. In 2019 they were a Graduate Emerging Company of The New Diorama Theatre London and are Associate Artists with Next Generation Youth Theatre.

Chalk Line has a decade of experience in developing new plays by marginalised writers, having been published with Methuen and Playdead Press. Their work is both thematically and visually ambitious, receiving great critical acclaim on their approach to contemporary theatre-making.
 

As a company they look to experiment with form, by tackling socio-political subject matters in an innovative way that is ultimately challenging yet entertaining. Chalk Line’s work is often the result of lots of research and development with playfulness at the heart of the company's approach. Their shows are often multi-disciplinary drawing from theatre, film, music and dance.

 

Awards Include: Social Cause Award (Arts Council Malta) 2025, Best New Writing at the Besties Awards 2024, Untapped Award 2022, London Pub Theatres Standing Ovation Award 2021, Best International Achievement Award (Arts Council Malta) 2021, COMMON Award 2020. Nominated for multiple OFFIE awards.

Beyond the stage Chalk Line provide extensive outreach programmes which have benefitted thousands of people and artists. This includes most recently their free knife crime intervention scheme for marginalised young people in 2025 reaching over 1000 young people in partnership with the Ben Kinsella Trust. We are dedicated to supporting those from disadvantaged backgrounds to access arts and culture.

 

They deliver workshops in schools and youth theatre groups, whilst also providing free/discounted theatre trips for young creatives to see their work.
